Sethu Vijayakumar: Robotics in Edinburgh

Prof Vijayakumar describes his work, funded by the EPSRC, on developing new ways of thinking about, representing and planning motion in robotics.

Inspired in part by the School of Informatics' leading animation research and employing thinking from machine learning and graph theory, Prof Vijayakumar and his colleagues in the Institute of Perception Action and Behaviour hope that this research will enable software for more complex robots and other machines, and for operating robots in more unpredictable environments.

Edinburgh's robotics research could enable more efficient manufacturing and packaging robotics, a greater use of robots in healthcare, home care and rehabilitation, and even shape new thinking in synthetic biology.
